About Us
The Regis School (TRS) is a secondary 11-18 school with specialist sports college status there are currently over 1400 pupils on role. As of 1 January 2012 the school became an Academy under the sponsorship of the United Learning Trust.
TRS is an open and inclusive comprehensive school that aims to achieve the best for every student. This philosophy is reflected in the successful Sixth Form of 200+ students who are offered a broad range of academic and vocational programmes. Around 50 TRS students progress to Higher Education each year.
TRS has a well qualified, dedicated supportive and enthusiastic staff team. There are 110 teachers and 86 support staff, all of whom are committed to providing the best possible education for students. As one of the biggest employers in Bognor Regis, we emphasise the learning of adults and young people. Staff are involved in further study, research projects and in the training of teachers in partnership with local universities.
The school boasts superb facilities in all subject areas. Each teaching area has audio-video facilities and a range of ICT suites throughout the school provides access to specialist equipment. All teachers have a laptop provided, to support teaching and administration.
"I have felt valued and supported since joining The Regis School. It is an organisation that is very open to creative thinking and I have been afforded wide scope to expand and develop my subject. Of course the new build is a tantalising prospect" Ellie Williams, Head of Media Studies
The Professional Development of Staff at TRS
The school’s commitment is to thrive as a learning community. Learning must be a core feature of all those engaged at TRS. To achieve this vision CPD must be evident and accessible for all stages and time and resources made available.
During the course of the current academic year we have:
- Strengthened the Wednesday after school CPD session to meet the specific needs of colleagues
- Introduced Performance Management for all support staff
- Developed a full induction day (in July) for NQTs and new staff
- Employed NQTs from 1 July wherever possible
- Responded to staff requests to run ‘healthy living’ activities
- Worked in partnership with local schools to provide pertinent staff training
- Established a database of staff training needs
Our training programme includes:
- Small and large group training events
- Peer observation
- Access to appropriate external courses
- Use of our school based ASTs and Coaches to personalise learning
- Sharing models of best practice
- Thoughts, suggestions, web links through our weekly staff bulletin
The strength of our CPD programme is reflected by:
- Nine of the school’s teaching assistants achieving HLTA status
- Three senior leaders holding the NPQH qualification
- Four members of staff holding Masters Degrees, with two others completing this post graduate qualification
- Forty three members of staff holding a First Aid qualification
- The appointment of one teacher as a Leading Practitioner in West Sussex and four as ASTs
- Staff taking advantage of courses run by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and the National College of School Leadership (NCSL)
- Visits to schools across the South of England
- Attendance at events and exhibitions across the UK, eg: BETT 2009
- Staff leading training both within TRS and at other schools and HE institutions
- Promotion, both internal and external, to posts of responsibility and leadership positions
"There are fantastic opportunities at The Regis School to be able to make a real difference to children's lives, to develop future learning, and to design new facilities. The new school is an exciting catalyst that will raise aspirations for not only the school, but also the whole community" Mark Betts, Business and Community Manager
The above illustrates the deep commitment of TRS to continuing professional development for every member of staff. The Governors and Senior Leadership Team recognise that investment in CPD enhances our learning mission and the success of the school as a whole.
