PSHCE
Pupils have a weekly lesson in PSHE. This is an active, participatory course, where students work in discussion circles. Through the use of games, group-work and role-play, they will become more aware of themselves and others, be able to recognise and express their feelings and develop communication skills, assertiveness and confidence to enable them to make informed choices regarding their health and safety and to become good adults.
In each year, the course has been designed to suit the needs of the students and they have had opportunities to influence the content of the curriculum. In Years 7 - 9, the course addresses tobacco, drug and alcohol misuse, sex and relationships education, healthy minds and bodies, similarities and differences, friendship issues and strategies for learning. Should you wish your child to be withdrawn from any part of the PSHE programme, please contact us.
We have many visitors in school, who are able to give expert input to the programme, as well as giving an opportunity to build relationships with outside agencies. Many of these visitors are known to the pupils at Junior School and we put great value on the service they give us.
