You will work in classes of 20 to design and make products such as a mirror frame, a clock, jewellery, a memo board, a cushion and a hanging storage product. At KS4 we offer courses in Product Design, Food and Textiles. These are very popular courses allowing students to design and create individual and original products.
In the sixth form we offer Product Design – 3D and Textiles. Many of our sixth formers go on to University to study Fashion and Textiles related courses at Universities such as Herriot Watt, De Montford, Epson and Leeds. We have Product Design students at Swansea and Portsmouth studying game design and car design.
In the new school we will have a warehouse style set of design studios with a specialist systems and control room. We will have the facilities to produce quality computer aided manufactured goods as they do in industry. Each room will be equipped with computers, as well as a designated computer suite for CAD/CAM work. There will be well equipped specialist Food and Textiles rooms.
We run many after school clubs for all year groups. There are Masterclasses for students from Y7 onwards for gifted students to gain a wider experience in all areas of Technology. There is an annual Fashion Show for students to model their own work, as well as an exhibition of work at the end of the school year.
We enter students for the Arkwright Scholarship which gives a student sponsorship and mentoring throughout their A Level course in Product Design. We run trips to the Clothes Show in Y10, 12 & 13. We take our Y10 and 12 students to London Graduate fashion week to see some of the top young designers. We also take the product Design students to a seminar in London.
We have an overseas trip to New York for the sixth form which we run every 2 years. Back To Top
