Year 7 students have already enjoyed an action packed trip to Cobnor and within their mentoring groups students are recovering from the fun of our first Olympic Challenge. Sequoia students have had lots of positive things to say about their new school:
"I've really enjoyed making friends with people from other year groups in my tutor group."
"The new toilets are pretty cool!!"
In the first three weeks of term students in Sequoia house earnt a fantastic 573 house points. As Head of House I am extremely pleased to see our students trying hard to be the best that they can be and I’m sure our house point total will continue to rise!
Students in Sequoia House got off to a flying start in 2011 by winning the latest Olympic Challenge. Well Done to R1 who delivered an excellent presentation on how the Arena could be re-designed for alternative uses that would benefit the whole community. Congratulations also to R12 who came 2nd and R13 and R6 who scooped a shared 3rd place! Not only were R1 the Sequoia winners but they also impressed the judges and were declared the overall Challenge winners, fending off tough competition from the other five houses. Well done to students from all houses who worked hard on this challenge. I look forward to seeing their efforts for challenge No.4!
Sequoia House students were busy right up until the Christmas Holidays. Students in R3 worked hard to organise a charity Football competition. Although the weather was bitterly cold more than 40 students turned up to play football and raise money for charity. The money will be used to support young people in Africa via the Oxfam Unwrapped project. The students involved in organising the event will shortly be choosing how they would like to spend the money; possibilities include board games and school supplies for children less fortunate than themselves.
Our fundraising didn’t stop there! Students turned out in their own clothes on the last day of term and paid a £1 for the privilege. After much discussion amongst the tutor groups, our House Leaders decided that the funds raised from this event should be donated to a local charity ‘Chestnut Tree House’ .
A grand total of £181.72p was raised from our non-uniform day and I’m sure it will be gratefully received.
Well Done Sequoia House!
