Combined Studies

Combined Studies is a competency based programme developed by the Royal Society of the Arts in which students will develop their learning skills so as to enable them to become more independent and ready to take on any challenge as they embark on their secondary education. The course supports transition, building on the skills introduced in primary school.

The subjects that have been combined are:

  • History
  • Geography
  • RE
  • PSHE
  • Information Literacy

The programme will include key skills from each subject area along with generic study skills and competences. There will be one project each half term, within which, two topics will run along side each other. The current project titles are:

  • Ourselves
  • Our Festivals
  • Our Environment
  • Our Island
  • Our Place in Europe
  • Our Place in the World

Throughout these projects students will be encouraged to work in groups, to work independently, to be able to identify their learning strengths and be able to manage situations with confidence. All the projects include citizenship and the importance of working with others. Some of the projects involve enterprise giving students an insight into the world of work. Parents will be invited to join in and share learning experiences with their son or daughter.

We want our students to become:

  • Successful learners
  • Confident individuals
  • Responsible citizens

We can do this by developing their Personal Learning and Thinking Skills:

  • Independent enquirers
  • Creative thinkers
  • Reflective learners
  • Team workers
  • Self managers
  • Effective participators
