History
History at The Regis School builds on the skills learnt at Primary School, such as historical inquiry and interpretations, whilst providing a study of British, European and World history from 1066 onwards. History is part of the Combined Studies curriculum in Year 7. This section of the curriculum is designed to develop historical skills whilst focussing on the Norman Conquest and how Kings controlled England. In Years 8 and 9 students study History in discrete lessons covering topics such as Henry VIII, the Spanish Armada, the Gunpowder Plot, Witchcraft, Victorian crime, the Battle of Trafalgar, the Titanic and World Wars One and Two. We aim to offer a range of learning experiences for students of all abilities, and use resources suited to all ability levels. Children work collaboratively in groups or individually in lessons, on a range of tasks ranging from project work to building historical models of castles. Students regularly use ICT to enhance their studies.
At GCSE level students study Modern World History, including World War One, Germany, Russia and the Cold War. At Sixth Form level we offer A2 and AS courses studying Germany, Britain’s political history, Lenin and USA Civil Rights.
There are also opportunities to go trips to Porchester Castle, Hampton Court, the Tower of London, Portsmouth Dockyard, The Imperial War Museum, the Ypres battlefields in Belgium and a residential trip to Berlin.
